Gourd Art has become the passion of artists Patrick & J. Whitney Walsh. They began working with the gourds in 2003 after Patrick suffered a back injury and needed  something to keep him busy during his recovery process. Being an artist in other mediums gave Patrick a good background to work from although he did have to learn some woodburing ( pyrography) skills.

Whitney has mastered many types of crafts over the years with woodworking as her favorite. Having never worked on gourds, Whitney took a class on making gourd purses and that did it! 

When people began to stop Whitney everywhere she went to comment on the gourd purse she carried and ask where they might get one, Patrick and Whitney knew they were on to something.  So starting out with a few simple designs and a range of combined talents, they became The Mad Moose Emporium.

Three years later they create beautiful gourd purses, as well as other wonderful gourd pieces, made with attention to detail and craftsmanship they stand behind.  Whitney now teaches classes and loves seeing people get hooked on gourds.
